Philosophy
The philosophy of With All My Heart Child Care Center is based on the concept that we raise our children with all our heart. We hope to teach them to do their best and put all their heart into whatever they do. We hope to create a safe, nurturing environment where interaction of children with other children and adults from society will stimulate their minds and foster the concepts of caring for self and others. We believe that children learn through interactions. The program encourages children’s interests through guided experiences and developmentally appropriate activities.
It is our goal to build and maintain a close relationship with every child and their family. We treat every child as if they were our own. Therefore, we aim to provide and develop a loving and nurturing atmosphere to help children learn. It is a goal of this program to provide a safe, educationally and socially enriching environment in which children can learn to be self-confident away from home.

Parent Input
With All My Heart Child Care Center encourages parental input through communication and parent conferences. Open communication and cooperation between home and the center is one key to the success of the education of their child.
Parent Visits
With All My Heart Child Care permits unannounced visits by the parent(s) or guardian to the program and their child’s room while their child is present. Parents will always be welcome at the center and we hope they will become part of our center family. Parents are encouraged to share their skills, interests, and cultures here at the center. We welcome any participation, or visits.

School-Age children will be released by public school bus at the end of the center’s driveway. A staff person will walk with the children and escort them into the Center.
Emergency Procedure
All of the staff has up-to-date First Aid and CPR training. Each child has a medical emergency card on file. It is important that this care be kept up-to-date. In the event of a serious emergency or accident at the Day Care, assessment of the child and injury will be made. If the child should not be moved, the EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians) will be called. The parents will be contacted and the child’s file will be pulled and made available for reference. If a parent cannot be reached, the alternate person on the emergency card will be contacted. A staff member will remain with the child until a parent arrives at the hospital. The child will have a familiar person with them throughout the ordeal.
If the medical emergency is not of serious nature requiring immediate care , then the parent will be contacted and the center will proceed as indicated by parents.
Fire Drill
With All My Heart Child Care Center will schedule a fire drill every month to teach and practice in the event of such an emergency. Meeting area will be at the telephone pole located next to the playground.
Evacuation Plan
In the event the center needs to evacuate the premises due to any hazard such as: fire, loss of power, loss of heat or hot water, natural disaster, or any other emergency, the center will follow the evacuation route and notify all people involved (parents and emergency units). During evacuation first aid /evacuation kit will be taken. Included in the first aid kit are state mandated materials needed for medical attention and/or emergency. In the evacuation kit there will be a list with updated pictures of each child at the center, emergency cards, permission forms for medical emergency, daily attendance sheet for staff and children, cell phone, emergency phone numbers and anything required for the current weather condition. It is the policy of the center to conduct evacuation drills monthly. These monthly drills will train the children and staff on exiting the building and the proper path to a designated meeting place in a safe location. These drills will be conducted at various times and a log will be kept on hand. In addition, the evacuation plan will be kept current based on the needs of all the children and staff in care. Located on the bulletin boards in each room in the building are posted pictures of the evacuation route and emergency phone numbers, and first aid kit /evacuation kit and medication kit.
In the event that requires evacuation the center will determine location based on the emergency.
The following places will be our choices given the emergency:
·
Fire drill meeting place·
48 Chipaway Rd. or 42 Chipaway Rd.·
Designated school per Town of Freetown·
State designated evacuation areaThe center will obtain information about emergency evacuate from media sources: television, radio, and telephone. If power is lost, cell phone will be used to contact local authorities.
The educators at With All My Heart Child Care are trained in evacuation of the center. An educator is responsible to check classrooms and attendance to make sure that all children have evacuated the building.
An emergency contact form is located in the first aid kit/evacuation kit and medication kit. This form will be used to contact parents.
Behavior Management
And
Discipline Policy
In establishing and maintaining guidelines for children’s behavior, this day care strives to ensure the safety and well being of the individual as well as the group. It is the goal of the program to enhance the children’s emotional development, promote their social skills, and to assist them in building their own sense of inner control. We strive to teach the children skills so that they learn to handle difficulties with other children and solve problems by using the High Scope Problem solving method. The steps to follow for this method are:
1. Approach calmly.
2. Acknowledge feelings.
3. Gather information.
4. Restate the problem.
5. Ask for solution and choose one together.
6. Be prepared to give follow-up support.
It is the day care’s policy that discipline and guidance be consistent and based on the understanding of the individual need of the child.
If “appropriate and feasible,” children shall participate in the establishment of rules, policies, and procedures.
In the case of disciplinary measures, WAMH will use positive reinforcement and re-direction first, and if necessary remove the child away from the group for a short period of time.
When needed, the following procedures may be used, but not limited to: reinforcement, redirection, reframing, proximity control, explanation, mediation, and reward.
If the child’s behavior does not improve with any of the above, the following will occur:
·
Exclude the child from the activity by letting him/her observe the activity·
Director will notify the parents so we can discuss a course of action together to rectify the problem·
Introduce the referral plan to the parent(s) at time of conference·
Suspend the child from the center·
Last, terminate the child from the center.Corporal punishment, shame, or long periods of isolation will never be used. Proper organization of the physical environment and proper training enhance appropriate behaviors. Learning appropriate social skills is best when their environment has established clear expectations, rules, limits, routines, and consequences enables present and future appropriate behavior.
Suspension/Termination Policy
The center will try to avoid suspension/termination. Steps to be taken to avoid this are as follows:
·
Behavior modification plan·
Meet with parents·
Provide referrals·
Pursue training·
Develop behavior intervention plan at home and in centerOn occasion, the day care or parents may decide that the child’s needs are not being met in a conducive and safe manner. After intervention, a decision for termination will be discussed and determined during a conference. The child will be prepared for suspension/termination by parents and staff during a one to two week period. Suspension/termination is an option only after all avenues for addressing the child’s need have been exhausted, or there is not cooperation in a timely manner to follow up on suggested referrals. Written documentation of the reasons for suspension/termination will be provided to the parents. It is never the Day care’s goal to suspend or terminate a child’s enrollment. Reasons for suspension/termination may also include but not limited to:
·
Behavioral circumstances that do not respond to intervention·
The health and safety of the child cannot be assured at the center.·
The health and safety of the other children within the center cannot be assured·
Staffing or group situations that do not meet the child’s developmental needs·
Non-payment of tuition·
Circumstances/situations involving parents. In the incidence of biting, if a child bites three times in a day, the parents will be called and asked to pick up the child.
For bites involving skin being broken, parents of the biter will be called to pick up their child. If it occurs three times, an intervention with the parents will be done to decide on termination/suspension.
There is a ninety-day trial period before the child is considered a permanent student. Any situation/circumstances (behavioral, adjustment, etc.) that occur in which do not comply with the Day care’s policies before this period is over, termination is possible.
If termination is decided upon, a written statement will be given to the parents stating specific reasons why their child is being suspended or terminated and a plan will be developed by Educator and Director stating conditions for the child to return to the center.
Referral services
It is the goal and philosophy of the program to establish a family-like relationship with each child and family. The individual child’s safety and safety to other children are a top priority. Upon enrollment, the center will identify and develop a plan or procedure for meeting individual children’s specific health care needs. The center will do all that it can to protect the children from exposure to foods, chemicals or other materials to which they are allergic. As required, a list of allergies will be identified, obtained and posted for the safety of all.
If a staff member becomes concerned about a specific child in the Center because of social, mental health, educational, or medical problems, the staff member must immediately inform the Director of their concerns. Observations will be made, recorded in the child’s record, and reviewed prior to making a referral. The Director will arrange for staff to meet with the parents to inform them and discuss the Center’s concerns. The program will provide to the parent a written statement including the reason for recommending a referral for additional services, a brief summary of the program’s observations related to the referral and any efforts the program may have made to accommodate the child’s needs. The program shall offer assistance to the child’s parents in making the referral and shall have written parental consent before any referral is made. A written record will be maintained, including the parent conference and results.
If is it felt there is further need for assessment of additional services in education would benefit the child, then the center shall refer the child for further evaluation. If a child is at least 2 and 1/2 years of age, the program shall inform the child’s parent(s) of the availability of services and rights to appeal, under ST. 1972, c.766.
A current list of services in the area will be given to the parent. The name and location of the contact person for Chapter 766 and the Early Intervention Program in the child’s school district will be given to the parent if there is an educational problem.

·
Before and after water play·
Before and after eating or handling food·
After toileting or diapering·
After coming into contact with bodily fluids or discharges (sneezing and coughing)·

Nutrition
With All My Heart Child Care Center is not supplying snacks or drinks at this time. Lunch and snacks will need to be supplied by the parent(s). There will be access to a refrigerator and microwave and drinking water. Please supply lunch box and ice pack with child’s name on it. If your child has breakfast at the center, we will supply milk.
Children require many “good” nutrients and calories to maintain their health and to grow. Children do not always eat many calories; therefore we encourage the calories that they do eat to be healthy ones. We request that all food and snacks provided by parents be of a nutritional nature. Providing a child with three nutritionally balanced meals, clean drinking water, two or three “good” snacks, plenty of fresh air, sunshine, rest, and love, is essential for proper neurological and physical growth.
A list of lunch suggestions has been compiled to assist in planning your child’s weekly lunch menu. Remember that children grow rapidly and require a lot of “good” calories, but cannot always eat large quantities. Please pack a reasonable amount of food for your child, including something extra if they had a light breakfast.
SUGGESTED LUNCHES
1. Try to pack lunches that contain fresh fruit, vegetables, beverage and “healthy” dessert each day.
2. Try to avoid the frequent use of white bread, luncheon meats (preservative and high salt content) and marshmallow fluff.

4. Including occasional cookies or cake, but moderation is important.

Rest
A sleeping bag is needed for your child at for rest time. Children are encouraged to nap, but are not required to do so. For those children that do not nap, our staff will supply them with books etc. for quiet time.
Illness Exclusion Policy
WAMH requests that parents communicate any changes in their child’s state of health. We realize that children involved in group settings tend to contract illnesses more frequently. Children play intimately, sharing toys and joys, and germs are not always possible to be avoided. WAMH requests that you do your best in deciding when to keep your child at home. Some helpful guidelines:
·
Respiratory Illnesses (colds): A runny nose when clear mucus is not necessarily a reason for a child to be kept at home. If the mucus is green, he/she has a fever, etc; the child should stay home.·
Fever/Temperature of 101 degrees or over. A child should be free of fever for 24 hours before returning to daycare. Exceptions may be an elevated temperature after immunization or prolonged physical activity.·
Other symptoms: parents should be concerned about and use wise discretion regarding unusual listlessness, vomiting (twice or more in the previous 24 hours, unless the vomiting is determined to be due to a non-communicable condition and the child is not in danger of dehydration, headaches, diarrhea, uncomfortable ear aches, teary eyes, unusual rash with a fever or behavior change, until a physician has determined that the illness is not a communicable disease.·
Communicable Diseases: A child should not attend day care with any communicable disease such as:o
Chicken pox, measles, mumps, bronchitis, impetigo, unexplained rash, strep throat, conjunctivitis, head lice, scabies, etc.o
An OCCS state regulation requires parent to alert the day care in the event their child has a communicable disease. Notice will be posted whenever a communicable disease is exposed to the day care.·
Antibiotics: A child should be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to day care.·
Children do not need to be excluded for other minor illnesses unless they are:o
Too sick to participate in program activities, they need more care than the staffing level allows, or they have unusual lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, difficulty breathing, or other signs of possible severe illnesses.
When Child Becomes Ill at WAMH
If a child should become ill during the day, the child will be separated from the group and made to feel as comfortable as possible. The child will be provided plenty of fluids if needed, cold compresses, and/or container for vomiting, and a staff will check in on the child to continually asses the situation. The illness will be documented, and based on the results of assessment, parent will be called to notify them of the condition of their child and if necessary, request that they pick up their child. Exclusion will be based on the above listed symptoms. It is important that the parent or a person listed on the authority to pick up form respond as soon as possible. If parents cannot be reached, the Director/teacher will continue calling the listed people on the authorization form.
Administration of Medication
If necessary, the daycare will dispense medication to a child. It is mandated by law that we have signed authorization from the parent and written order from the child’s physician. Medical Administration forms will be provided upon enrollment and located in child’s file. Forms must be signed and dated before dispensing medication. If the directions are not clear, medicine will not be dispensed. Medication must include the prescription label on the medication which indicates the child’s name, name of drug, and directions for administration. Medications will be properly stored out of reach of the children. Written records of medication administration will be kept in the child’s record. All medications must be given directly to a teacher or Director and NOT stored in child’s belongings.
All medication, whether prescription or non-prescription, will be administered to the child only with written parental authorization and written order of a physician. All medication administered to a child, including but not limited to oral and topical medications of any kind, either prescription or non-prescription, must be provided by the child’s parent. No medication, prescription, non-prescription, or topical medication will be administered contrary to the directions on the original container unless so authorized by a written order of the child’s physician. Non-prescription permission is good for one year. Topical non-prescription medication requires statement from the parents, listing specific medication (topical only) and criteria for administration and is valid for only one year.
All medication will be kept labeled in its original container, with the child’s name, the name of the drug and the directions for its administration and storage. All medication will be kept out of reach of the children and under proper conditions. All unused medication will be returned to the parent when no longer needed. This does not apply to topical non-prescription medications which are not applied to open wounds, rashes, or broken skin.
Parent must give child first dose of prescribed medication. No staff is allowed to give first dose.
A written record of the administration of any medication, prescription or non-prescription, to each child which includes the time and date of each administration, the dosage, the route, the name of the staff member administering the medication and the name of the child will be maintained. The completed medication record will be made part of the child’s file.

Allergies
It is the goal and philosophy of the program to establish a family-like relationship with each child and family. The individual child’s safety and safety to other children are a top priority. Upon enrollment, the center will identify and develop a plan or procedure for meeting individual children’s specific health care needs. The center will do all that it can to protect the children from exposure to foods, chemicals or other materials to which they are allergic. As required, a list of allergies will be identified, obtained and posted for the safety of all.
Upon enrollment, a medical history or a profile of the child will be developed including any special precautions or needs the child might need. In the child’s record a sheet will be made easily recognizable with special considerations such as allergies. Information contained in the child’s record is held confidential. A master list of allergies will be posted (without child’s name). A letter will be snt home to parents regarding precautions when sending in lunches and concerns of allergic reactions to certain foods or items. All medications will be kept in a container out of reach of children, but easily accessible to staff. Training will be given to staff on dealing with allergic reactions.
Please dress your child in suitable and comfortable clothing. Please do not send children in shoes that would fall off of their feet during play and clothing that does not have any strings . Please note that any clothing that is deemed unsafe by staff will not be permitted at the center. Please keep in mind that the children will be busy and get messy. Please send in a spare set of clothes in the event of an accident occurring, something spills, or getting wet due to the weather. Please label each item of outer wear to avoid confusion.
